Seat Accessories
Each rehabilitation seat is custom-designed according to the needs of its user. In other words, different rehabilitative seats require different modifications and accessories. The same type of accessories can be modified in terms of size, shape, thinness, material, etc., in accordance with particular needs of its user.
In this section, we will introduce some commonly used accessories for the rehabilitation seats and their functions, that which allows you to learn about the use of these accessories in improving seating posture.

Functions:
- To relieve back discomfort due to prolonged sitting
- To reduce or to slow the progression of spinal deformities (depending on the conditions of users)
- To maintain the trunk in midline
- To promote the natural curvature of spine

- A variety of models available for users with different conditions
- Durable, not easy to deform
- The size and shape can be tailor-made
- Inner layer is covered with waterproof fabric while the outer layer is a washable cover

Planar backrest: Backrest with a flat surface makes users more comfortable when resting on it.

Pressure relieving backrest: The backrest is made with pressure relieving material to reduce pressure on users’ back. Moreover, the lumbar region is made thicker to promote the natural curvature of spine.

Moulded backrest: Moulded in accordance with the user’s back shape and curvature, this kind of backrest provides the greatest back support to its user’s over lumbar region. It is widely used by persons with spinal deformities.

Functions:
- To support calves and feet
- To keep calves and feet in position so as to stabilize sitting posture
- To protect calves and feet from injuries result from external objects or the frame of the seat
Features:
- Footboards and footboxes are made according to the angle of the knee and ankle joints, and the length of the calves and feet
- The original footrest of the wheelchair can still be swung away and removed with the footboard installed
- Footbox is designed and installed in a way that is more durable than ordinary wheelchair footrest

Padded footboard: Made with wooden board and soft padding covered with waterproof fabric on its surface. It is fixed on the original footplate of the wheelchair with screws

Footbox: The original footrests of the wheelchair will be replaced by two pieces of L-shaped wooden board. Foot straps can be added for feet fixation.

Padded footbox: The original footrests of the wheelchair will be replaced by two pieces of L-shaped wooden board covered with soft padding and waterproof fabric. Foot straps can be added for feet fixation.

Functions:
- To support the head and neck
- To prevent the neck from hyperextension
- To promote midline orientation of the head and neck
- To protect the head from injuries

- A variety of models available for users with different needs
- A head control system for power wheelchair can be installed if necessary
- Height and position (front/rear) can be adjusted
- It can be removed if necessary
- Inner layer is covered with waterproof fabric while the outer layer is a washable cover

U-shaped headrest: The inner side of the headrest is shaped like a “U”. It provides support to the head but may slightly block the user’s bilateral visual field.

Planar headrest: Headrest with a flat surface. It is more comfortable when resting on it

Horizontal displacement: The position of the headrest can be adjusted forward or rearward for the user’s neck condition.

Lateral headrest: Extending the lateral support of a headrest can provide support and protection to the user’s head and thereby prevent it from displacement.

Neck-head support: It provides an extra firm support to the head and neck comparing to the U-shaped and planar headrests. However, the movement of the head will be slightly limited

Functions:
- Used as a table
- To support the upper limbs and subsequently the upper trunk
- Can be used as a treatment tool by mounting a horizontal or vertical handlebar
- Can cover the top of the laptray with soft padding to protect the body and the upper limbs

- A selection of wooden board, transparent PVC board and grey PVC board available
- Easy to remove
- The size and shape of the laptray can be tailor-made according to the user’s body contour
- The wooden laptray is covered with a easy-to-clear fire-resistant board
- Other accessories, such as elbow guard and pommel, can be mounted on the laptray

Functions:
- To support the trunk
- To stabilize the sitting posture
Features:
- Adjustable height and width
- It can be detached without tool if needed
- The size and thickness can be modified according to the user’s needs
- The entire device is covered with soft padding that no hard surface will be exposed

Functions:
- To prevent excessive hip adduction
- To maintain the thighs in a natural sitting position
- To prevent crossed leg sitting

- Easy to detach
- The size, thickness, shape and mounting position can be modified
- Passively separates the thighs

Functions:
- To reduce the pressure exerted on buttock so as to prevent pressure sores
- To promote natural pelvic anterior tilt
- To hold the pelvis in position so as to stabilize the posture

- The size and shape can be tailor-made
- Durable, not easy to deform, not easy to bottom out
- Materials with a range of hardness, including pressure relieving memory foam, are available that can be selected according to the users’ needs.

Pelvic stabilizer: Seat cushion with the general contour of the hips and thighs can facilitates proper sitting posture. Its surface is made of pressure relieving memory foam which can reduce the pressure on the buttocks.

Moulded Seat cushion: The seat cushion is moulded according to the body shape of the user. It provides the greatest support and pressure relief for deformed pelvis and thighs

- To hold the pelvis, trunk, limbs, etc. in position and subsequently stabilize the sitting posture
- To protect users from falling and injuries

- Velcro is used on the straps to make it easy to adjust the length and tightness
- The measurement could be modified according to particular needs
- The mounting position and angle are custom-made

Pelvic strap: Used to stabilize the pelvis so that the user will not slide forward on the seat cushion. It will be effective only if the strap is tightened

Calf strap: Used on the footrests of the wheelchair to prevent the feet from slipping down from the footplates

Abduction strap: To separate the thighs. By fine-tuning the tightness of the strap, the degree of separation can be adjusted.
